You can also check out my blog post on my favorite books of all time and why I love them. I discovered that most of the books I love most have one thing in common—Rescuers. Someone sacrificed him or herself to save someone else. That also happens to be the main theme of the books I’ve written. Not coincidentally, it’s the theme of the Bible as well. Jesus, who is the ultimate Savior, said this: “ There is no greater love than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13)

I thought this would be a good time to recommend some books that I and my readers and fellow writers have enjoyed.

The King’s Curse by J.F. Rogers

Book 1 of the Cursed Lands series from the author that brought you The Ariboslia series.

The King’s Curse is a captivating adventure tale of one girl’s quest to heal a kingdom through the power of God’s love. It’s got all the ingredients you could ask for in a fantasy novel: fantastical creatures (including a shape-shifting dragon), nail-biting action, sweet romance, and a colorful cast of characters that turn out to be not what you expected. I love that Rogers is unafraid to bring a Christian worldview into her wonderfully complex and multi-layered fantasy world. The King’s Curse will transport you to a realm of wonder and mystery, and you might never want to go home again.

 Ionic Attraction by D.R. Rosensteel

Do you love wacky YA sci-fi adventures? Then you love this one!

Zachary Keen is a genius in quantum physics—he’s also seventeen and in prison for something he didn’t do. But the Mastermind Complex needs him. So Zachary gets a special parole in order to join a secret task force of gifted teenagers whose mission is to locate a new weapon that could destroy the earth—or at least one particular piece of it. Zach is happy to be free but also haunted by the torture he experienced in prison as well as his confusing feelings for Jane, daughter of the Mastermind director. The two will lead the team to discover the truth about the weapon and the people behind it, and in the process, face their deepest fears in the form of a terrifying machine that might just destroy their minds.

Weird science, mind-blowing tech, brilliant heroes, devilishly clever villains, and never-ending action—Ionic Attractions hits the ground running and never lets up, delivering plot twists galore with side-splitting humor and a touch of romance. It’s like Harry Potter with science instead of magic. Rosensteel delivers what few authors can pull off successfully: believable teens in unbelievable situations. A fun and enjoyable story that will keep you guessing until the very end.

RECORDER by Cathy McCrumb

Do you have an interest in genetic engineering and how it might affect our relationship with God?

In a future world, Recorders are human orphans with neural implants that make them basically recorders of the world around them without any emotional attachment. But the Recorder in this story has her neural implants removed, and suddenly, she is facing human feelings for the first time in her life. It’s a very well-written and engrossing novel that touches on the idea of what makes humans human and the frightening consequences of what a world with our human emotion would entail.
