Do Angels Sing?
This is the time of year when we sing songs about angels singing songs—Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Angels We Have Heard on High, Angels from the Realms of Glory, From Heaven High, O Angels Come, The Angels Song, just to name a few. It’s something we’ve always taken for granted—of course, angels sing! But as I’ve written a few books that depict angels singing, I must admit that in his account of the birth of Jesus, Luke does not actually say that the angels sang.
‘And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”’ Luke 2:13-14 (ESV)
Okay, point taken.
Still, there are some instances where we catch angels actually singing. In Job 38:7, when God describes creating the universe, He says, “the morning stars (i.e., the angels) sang together.” In Revelation, the angels join with the living creatures and the elders at the throne and “sang a new song” (Rev 5:8-13). In Revelation 15, when the wrath of God is finished, the angels “sing the song of Moses.” Even the Lord himself will sing over us (Zeph 3:17).
So it makes sense to me that the angels could very well have been singing that first Christmas night. And let’s be real, you have to imagine that even when an angel speaks, it probably sounds like singing because it is so awesome.
Most importantly, the angels, like us, are praising God, which is music to His ears. Throughout the Bible, we are called upon to praise God in song—you’ve heard of the book of Psalms, right? In a casual survey, I counted over 100 times the people are commanded to sing praises to God. Other blogs I’ve read put the number at well over three hundred. Nearly a tenth of the entire Bible is written in song form.
But if you really need convincing that angels sing, watch this video of the recording of the song Fly by Jason Upton. While he was singing, witnesses say an actual angel appeared and sang with him. I had chills after seeing it. Make sure to watch the opening segment to hear the testimony of how it came about.
Now try and tell me that angels don’t sing.

There’s no doubt in my mind that music has power, both in the natural and supernatural realm. I’ll be writing about this in future blogs. In the meantime, check out my novel series, Forlorn, which features a girl who wields the power of song as a weapon against the dark world.
